Hello 2021!

Sunday I began the painstaking process of creating content for the Willing Fred YouTube channel. And when I say painstaking, I hope they are just growing pains!

After attempting my first Vlogmas at the end of 2020 – which by itself there were a LOT of lessons learned – I thought, “Why not? We can do this!”

So I started with a smaller video of an unboxing of the first Black Needle Society box of 2021 – the January box, A Date With Your Stitching. You can find my review/unboxing here:

After attempting that small video, I just dove right in to the deep end with a full-on “feature length” YouTube video…🤦🏻‍♀️

I will share the link to it at the end of this article, but I thought I would do a quick recap, so you can decide for yourself if you would like to watch and find out all the details! 😉

So I started with a brief introduction of myself and Fred and the Instagram feed I created to share my making and adventures with my followers. And instead of a full recap of my 2020 finishes, I decided to talk about my year-end start of the Northeasterly blanket by Skeinigans, which I covered in my previous post at the end of November 2020 (right before Vlogmas began.)

After covering some of my projects from 2020, I was able to share the one finished knitted object of 2021 – a test knit of the Warmth Shawl by Drunk Knitter

And in typical style, I had to admit to working the cabled edging wrong – a twisted cable instead of a braided one. AND warned of the theme of the first episode of the channel – that all of my projects ended up being worked by a brain that was not following the rules, but thinking independently and creating small mistakes in everything I worked on and discussed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Since that was my only finished knitted object, I went on to my WIPs (works in progress), which were carried over from the end of 2020. I had a second Blurry Flurry hat, by Cozy Up Designs I had started, along with two single socks that needed a mate. Again, both of those socks were completed having ran into some issue with the pattern, or my knitting, that left me delaying the start of the second sock trying to determine where to go next.

And then the discussion went on to knitting plans for 2021…and most of that discussion was about MORE SOCKS!!!! 😜 And also a Knitcrate pattern that I had the yarn for, and stashbusting some Lion Brand Heartland yarn to make the Weekender Sweater by Andrea Mowry.

After that, it was on to cross-stitch…where the show REALLY got going!

After showing off two FFO’s (fully finished objects) and one finished object, as part of the #quirkyquakerSAL on Instagram, it was on to ALL the plans for 2021 stitching!

Included in my stitching plans for 2021 are (so far) four SALs (stitch-a-longs); one from Caterpillar Cross Stitch which starts January 25th, one with Tiny Modernist that started on January 1, one with Stitchonomy that will end in February, and the final one by Barbara Ana that starts in February.

And now back to the beginning…when I mentioned the first video I posted of 2021 – the unboxing of the first Black Needle Society box, A Date With Your Stitching.

Among ALL of the fabulous goodies – and exclusive needleminder, embroidery floss, lotion bar, candle, etc. – was a Hands On Design pattern made specifically for this box! Since the theme was romance, and ultimately leading up to Valentine’s Day, the ladies at BNS asked for a retro/vintage theme with a …. WAFFLE design!

Immediately the first thing that came to mind for me was Leslie Knope, from NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and her love of waffles, AND her invention of Galentine’s Day – February 13th. A day to spend with your best girl friends and dote on each other.

So I decided to create a SAL (stitch-a-long) in honor of Leslie Knope and announced the #galentineswaffleSAL to be stitched on (or leading up to) February 13th!

So for anyone that was lucky enough to get in on this BNS box, and got this exclusive pattern, I invite you to join along on Instagram with the hashtag #galentineswaffleSAL and everyone can share their stitching of this cute project!

And finally, the moment you have been reading and waiting for, here is the full YouTube video from the Willing Fred channel – episode #1 – My Brain is 🤪

Enjoy!
